![]() The Gothic may be fruitfully separated from horror, a genre premised on the emotional impact it seeks to have on readers, as a type of literature concerned with the legacy of the past on the present-and, more importantly, with the retrojecting of contemporary anxieties into times considered more barbaric. ![]() ![]() In a century when the Gothic has once again exploded in popularity, and following a period of strong institutionalization of its study in the 1990s and 2000s, establishing some of its key modern manifestations and core concerns becomes a pressing issue. The contemporary Gothic, drawing on an already fragmented and heterogenic artistic tradition, is less a genre than a vestigial type of writing that resuscitates older horrors and formulas and filters them through the echo chambers of a modern preoccupation with the social value of transgressive literature. She had never known she was owned by him. Jaina is confused for a moment and looks up to Jakston. She looked closely at the back of her hand. He wasn't sure this would work, and if it didn’t he’d likely be dead or in jail. Jakston took out the pen and wrote “Jakston Bligham’s” on the back of Jaina’s hand. She frowned slightly as she saw what he was doing. “May I have your hand, it’s something very special,” He told her. He carefully takes her hand and brings her to a nearby store he had cleared out before. “Oh very well, but hurry I have a meeting to get to,” Jaina answered, curious now what this commoner would want from her. “I’d like to show you something, I think it’s very important,” Jakston told the arch mage, looking down. Little did she know that this new attack would come from a very different source. She had full confidence in her ability to deal with anything that may come up. Jaina had put up magical protection just in case. “Yes, what do you want good sir,” she answered friendly enough. Jaina stopped, surprised that someone would talk with her. He knew Jaina liked the privileges of her rank and ensured his bow was perfectly deferential. Stepping out into the crowded street, he walked confidently up to Jaina. It had been years before he returned, befouled and rotten. Jakston had been a spy in the service of Llane Wrynn when he had fallen. Undead to the core, Jakston followed Sylvanas Windrunner. Underneath the common looking human lurked an undead creature so hideous it could barely be seen as a humanoid. The spell that had been cast on Jakston Bligham that even the arch mage could not penetrate it. The beautiful spell caster could not detect a spy in their mist. Her magical sense could usually pick up on any type of enemy action, but this was different. Something in the back of her mind said something was wrong, but she couldn’t quite figure out what it was. It felt so good to be back, after her long exile, things for once were looking up. She barely even noticed the special treatment. Walking to the market, she always drew attention at the human capital, people stepped out of her way. She was anxious to get out of it and into something a bit more comfortable. Having just met with the king, she had been wearing her customer white and blue mage garb. Her biggest worry right now was Tyrande, the leader of the elves was proving to a real thorne in the alliances collective side. The hated orcish horde had been defeated and Anduin reigned for the first time in peace. She felt pride in helping usher him to a new era of Alliance prosperity. ![]() The boy had become a strong leader in the past few months. Jaina smiled, knowing she had beaten the banshee queen. Things had been going pretty well once the bitch in Orgrimmar had been ousted. Lady Jaina Proudmoore stepped from her keep in Stormwind. ![]()
